What should go in my pitch guidelines?

Modified on Sun, 27 Nov, 2022 at 6:33 PM

Pitch guidelines tell freelancers how to structure their pitches so that you can easily review them and click "Accept" or "Decline."

What's the difference between pitch guidelines and pitch requests?

Pitch guidelines are the parent set of instructions that apply to all pitches, while pitch requests are a one-time call for ideas.

What should I include in my pitch guidelines?

Pitch guidelines should ask freelancers to include the following information in their pitches:

  • Title

  • Sample lede, or a grabby introduction that teases the story

  • One- or two-paragraph overview of what the story will cover and how, and why it's relevant

  • Proposed sources (primary and/or secondary)

  • Relevant links that freelancers may use to inform the final product
