Who does what at Contently?

As with any editorial production, there are several key players. Here we’ll explain each role so you can understand who you're working with throughout an assignment.

The Creative Marketplace Team

The Creative Marketplace team is responsible for the health of Contently's Talent Network; shepherding freelancers through every stage of their career with Contently. They attract top freelancers (with great content!) via The Freelancerencouraging readers to register for portfolios. The team then evaluates each portfolio, inviting only the top 3% to work with clients. All our freelancers undergo platform training to become eligible to be matched with clients for paying assignments. With the help of our proprietary algorithm, the team matches freelancers with clients based on experience and background. The team monitors freelancer performance, constantly evaluating work to ensure our clients only work with the best.

Managing Editors

Managing editors, as the name implies, manage editorial production for most of our clients. They edit your stories, set deadlines, communicate revision requests, and much more. They're a phenomenal resource for most of your questions, and have a deep understanding of each client’s production process and editorial.

While managing editors perform several tasks, below are a few key elements of their position:

  • Assign story briefs and request pitches

  • Edit stories, ensuring they're on brand before reaching a client

  • Vet pitches for clients, who may have the ultimate say

  • Manage the editorial calendar and story workflow

If your client has a managing editor, you will be introduced when you’re added to an account. If there is no mention of a managing editor, you will work directly with the client throughout the editorial process.

Clients

Our phenomenal clients are innovative marketers and brand managers. They may be new to content, but they know it can help them build a devoted audience within their market.

If your client does not have a managing editor, you will work with them directly on submitting pitches, creating stories, editing, and revising. They are often new to the editorial process and we appreciate you working closely with them, as a core part of their team. And remember, the more pitches you submit, the more responsive you are, the more likely you are to receive work.
